Behavioral Training
Train the dogs to be quiet The dog may be a herd animal
always prefer to be with other dogs but once brought into the household
they are happy inside rather than kept in the backyard as they are to
defend a larger territory. This may lead to frantic barking at the
intruders. By restricting the territory it has to live in will reduce
this problem. A good compromise could be to restrict the area inside the
house and allowing a small area in the backyard too will help. If they
are found to be destructive outside doing things like digging, chewing
and biting it would be advisable to crate them while inside and leave
them free in the backyard. Crating is most beneficial when the dos are
in their puppy hood and if done while they are young they will learn the
habit of spending their quietly whether they are inside or out. Crating
the dog in their adult hood is most difficult.
 Give Proper Exercise
It is always natural for a dog doing digging, barking or chasing other
dogs. All dogs do these things when left alone. It could be controlled
with proper training. The best thing is to give them exercise. As most
dogs need activity whether working breed or companion breed. The
duration can vary for different breeds. If allowed to go free for
digging any where it may spoil the appearance of your household. You
could have a sand bund and allow them only to dig at it. Free digging
may cause injury. Watch them carefully The dogs may sometimes
show aggression when you show your anger on some misbehavior like
chewing some important paper you left on the table. It is natural for a
dog to chew and hence it is you to train them only to chew on things
that you give. Always give them something to chew when it is idle like
some toys or some rubber tube. When you are home if the dogs start to
chew something which it should not say a firm NO and give the toy to
chew on. Proper use of crating, toys and watching them closely are some
of the ways to keep your house safe from being destroyed.
 Train
them to be obedient
Do not allow the dog to disobey the order. You should always be
assertive and be the boss. Do not forget to show your happiness when
they obey your orders. Always try and tone down your orders with already
submissive dogs which may turn them aggressive just to show their
disapproval. You may take a puppy’s mischievous nature as aggression.
They are testing only your limit and do not show your all out dominance
and very quietly establish your position. Do not forget to appreciate
the signs of submission and show them the limits by allowing him to lick
below your cheek. Give them a soft massage on their belly when it rolls
over. Always be consistent of your correction methods. When you see some
action need be corrected do it when he is in action. A mischievous puppy
may challenge your supremacy. Do not neglect and correct them
immediately by showing them your unhappiness. Leading you through the
door, jumping out of your car before you order and jump for food in your
hand are some of their behavior to be corrected immediately.
 .It is
also quite natural for a puppy to bite and chew on you. Do not allow
them to do this. When it jumps on you and starts biting replace your
hand with a firm no and gives them some toys to chew and bite on and if
it still persists go away from them and stops playing with them. Also
give them a hefty reward if it starts chewing their toys. They will
learn quickly that you are not happy.
